Today is a very special day! Three years ago the world got a little bit sweeter with the addition of one Mr. Duke Smith. I know my life is more full because of him and there are plenty of others who would agree. To think that almost 5 years ago, the idea of this child was pushed aside due to an inconvenient fight with cancer. But thankfully the cancer is gone and he is here. I know every parent loves their child, but I can’t help but think that because of everything I have been through, I might just love him a little bit more. There are so many things about him that bring a smile to my face. The way his whole body tenses up when he gets excited. When he tells me that I am his best friend. When he says ‘Thanks’ without being prompted. The fact that he still wants me to lay beside him until he falls asleep. The way he twists, turns, and spins his blankie to get it exactly right. I could go on and on, but I wouldn’t want to bore anyone, so I will just leave you with a few pictures from his 3 year photo shoot!
(Julie, we went by Cuppies and Joe for a little treat after the shoot. Great place!)
And I know what everyone is thinking, but I did not make him get a green cupcake so it would match his shirt. He really wanted a green cupcake. That’s all he asked for the entire time we were in OKC…green cupcakes!
Happy Birthday, Duke!!! Daddy and I love you so much and we are so grateful that God chose us to be your parents.
